Duties and Responsibilities: Talent Agents represent and promote artists, entertainers, and athletes. They act as a personal manager that has business management experience and or education, and handle the financial affairs for actors and actresses, musicians, artists, athletes, and in general entertainers and performers.
As a business manager, talent agents can take on roles as booking agents and will procure leads for acting roles, commercial spots, performances, and even late night comedy shows like David Letterman. They manage the business matters as they handle all of the paperwork for the star, book the show or performance, handle the contract negotiation, and share the requirements i.e. refreshment needs, cosmetic requirements, trailers etc with the prospective employer.
As a personal manager, the agent will attempt to plan a lifetime career for the artist or entertainer by overseeing all facets of the act’s career, from defining the character roles he or she might be part of, to developing a public persona that the general aucience can identify. Many of the creative decisions for the actor, musician or artist can be influenced by the talent agent, and can affect the long-term goal of fame. They might also hire specialists in each field, a booking agent, other business managers, public relations managers etc.
