Duties and Responsibilities: Broadcast technicians assemble and operate radio and television hardware and software equipment for studios and on-location broadcasting events. This can be for news casts, television reality shows, traditional Hollywood shows, radio programs and more. Broadcast technicians are typically responsible for monitoring and operating sound and video equipment during production and will also assist in tearing down the setup.

Broadcast technicians with experience will perform troubleshooting on broadcasting setups, might design and install new equipment, upgrade software and or firmware, and perform corrective maintenance. Broadcasting might also include operating the Television Master Control unit routing broadcast signals to satellites, studios, uplink sites etc.

Broadcast technicians also require knowledge of FCC regulations and work to keep compliance between signals and transmitters.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Typical required skills and abilities for a broadcast technician include appropriate knowledge of related computer and software equipment, an FCC Radio-telephone Operators License, strong communication skills, problem solving and troubleshooting skills, the ability to multi-task, and the ability to work with a team of professionals.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Associates degree in telecommunications or closely related field.
One year television broadcast experience.
FCC Restricted Operators Permit
