I agree. Hatch Mott MacDonald is the worst company I have ever worked for. But Bill, you need to specify that you are talking about the ENV division in NJ. I still work here (have two kids) so I dont want to say much more. But your right...all about the managers. Stay away.

Absolutly no intrest in the "lower caste" workers. If you are not in the high upper echelons forget it. You will recieve promises for advancement, but they won't deliver. Most people leave after one year which is about the time it takes for most workers to figure this out. If you work there better learn how to CYA.

Most are not aware that the managers get bonuses for reaching certain numbers, and they will go to ANY lengths to reach them.

No intrest is awarded for inovative ideas, but if by chance one is adopted, the individual does not get the credit for it.

Poor quality work, suspect billing practices and poor treatment of employees.

Don't work there.

Anybody who as ever worked for a Specialty Retail company can relate to measureables as Comp volume, Units Per transaction, and Sales per transation. Sometimes referred to as Average Dollar Sales and Items per trans. One can only influence these measurables because ultimately you cannot force a customer to buy what they just don't want. All one can do is show the customer what we want them to buy. Most specialty retailers rate performance on Comp performance in volume and how a store compares to units and average dollar trans from the prior year. They realize that markets are different from store to store. Aeropostale, however, will hold store performance based on averages in raw measurables and not based on LY performance. They set specific corporate goals but then allow the DM's to set their own goals that can manipulate statistical quality to meet their own personal agenda. The review process is not well defined nor is it consistent from employee to employee because DM's do not and are not required to adhere to the specific goals the company has outlined. Therefore, one's review can be based soley on personal and character differences and not of a professional performance nature. A meeting with a HR representative to discuss these concerns was canceled by the HR representative after the DM was aware of the meeting. The associate Drove to NY, on personal time, from Pittsburgh, only to be denied the meeting that the HR representative set. He was already on the subway when the phone call came in. A bogus story was fabricated about a crisis in another store and that nobody else in HR could meet with him. However, the associate went to the Home Office anyway to drop off documentation of the concerns and to show in good faith the he was keeping the appointment. He signed in with the security guard in the lobby and dropped off the documents. He than called the HR rep's extention and expecting to get her voicemail. She wasn't supposed to be in because of a crisis but instead of getting her voicemail, she picked up her extention. So... Aeropostale prides itself in "Staying the Path" and strong core values, but they don't really value their employees and live up to their own polcies regarding "Stay the Path" . Management is expected to work stretch open to close days w/out regard to personal obligations, but yet will promise you work/life balance during the interview process to get you in the door. You are not an asset, just a pawn in a strategic game they play to have success. So be careful when deciding who to work for in Specialty Retail. They all operate from the same performance principals. Just make sure that they are fair, obtainable, and realistic points of measurables. Otherwise, you will be thinking that you really "suck at life" when the bar is raised too high. The consumer really hasn't any true idea what goes on behind the scene. Some may think we are all just pushy sales people, but the bottom line is, we are all just trying to keep our jobs. If you return something, it is detrimental to the units per trans and the Average dollar sale. So don't buy unless you really want it, or you could have a negative effect to an individual performance. I know this sounds unfair, and it really is what is is. Retail sucks... especially at Aeropostale.
